Treatment of a stuck finger

Stinging finger disease (tenosynovitis) is a non-infectious (usually) inflammation of the tendon of the finger or its covering, which manifests itself in a disorder of bending and extending the fingers - the finger gets stuck when bending, a clicking sound can be heard, and pain is felt.

When the disease is not advanced, it can be treated with conservative treatment measures. If they are ineffective, the only solution is surgery.

How is the operation performed?

Anulotomy is an operation for a stuck finger, which is performed using local infiltration (when a solution of pain-relieving drugs is injected into the tissues) or wire anesthesia. During the operation, the obstruction that prevents the movement of the tendon and causes the finger to be stuck is removed.

Postoperative period and healing

• After the operation, it is necessary to bandage the wounds every 2-3 days;
• Sutures are removed after 14 days;
• Light movements of the hand can be performed 1-2 days after the operation, but normal and active movement of the finger and hand can only be done after 2-3 weeks, when the wounds have completely healed;
• Special exercises are required 2-3 weeks after the operation;
• Hand function is fully restored after 4 weeks.
