Removal of skin and subcutaneous formations

Formations of the skin and subcutaneous tissue are not only aesthetic, but often also a health-threatening problem. Skin and subcutaneous formations are surgically removed if:

• It begins to change its size, color, shape;
• The contour of the formation begins to become washed out, uneven;
• The formation is painful to the touch;
• Obstacles in performing daily tasks: washing, dressing, combing, etc.;
• Disgusts the aesthetic image;
• The formation is large;
• There is a suspicion that the formation may be malicious.

How is the operation performed?

The operation is usually performed under local anesthesia, except in cases where the growth is very large or numerous, in which case general anesthesia may be used. The incision is made around the formation, taking into account its shape, visually within the boundaries of healthy tissue. The formation is removed and the incisions are closed. If the operating surgeon sees the need, the formation can be sent for histological (changes in the patient's tissue structure) studies, which aim to confirm or deny suspicions or establish a diagnosis.

Postoperative period and healing

The postoperative healing period lasts about 7-10 days;

The sutures are removed 7-14 days after the operation, depending on the area from which the formation was removed;

In the first days after the removal of the formation, it is necessary to change the bandages, to protect the operated area from irritating substances for several weeks;

The size of the scar depends on the size and shape of the formation, as well as on the patient's organism - if the organism is prone to scarring, the incision site may heal longer and the scar may remain larger;

The scar should be protected from direct sunlight for at least half a year to keep it as small as possible.
