Nose surgery

The nose is the central and most protruding part of our face, the shape of which can even affect the facial expression. For example, a curved nose rejuvenates and gives femininity, a little hump looks exotic, but after suffering an injury, a crooked nose can add rudeness. Rhinoplasty - plastic surgery of the nose - can help fulfill the desire to have the nose of your dreams and correct the imperfections of the nose left by nature or trauma. Also, nose surgery is performed not only to achieve a beautiful aesthetic image, but also to regain the joy of easy breathing.

Who can undergo rhinoplasty?

In a common case, patients turn to a plastic surgeon with the expectation of such a result, which in some cases is not possible or only possible after several nose operations. It is very important to understand that there is no perfect nose that fits everyone - your nose should be proportionate and create facial harmony. Before committing to this surgery, you need to know exactly what kind of result you expect and discuss this with your plastic surgeon or otolaryngologist.

 A crooked asymmetrical nose

Nose correction is performed for patients who are dissatisfied with the shape and size of the nose, who have asymmetric and large nostrils, a clearly visible hump.

Nose injuries

Rhinoplasty is performed for those who have suffered nose injuries that obviously cause discomfort and the nose looks unaesthetic.

Breathing disorders

If you complain of blocked airways, a nasal septum operation (septoplasty) is performed during the operation, which usually causes breathing problems.

Unsatisfactory result

If you naturally have a large, bumpy, long nose, or an ugly, wide tip, the solution is rhinoplasty.

How to prepare for nose plastic surgery?

Consultation with a doctor

The first and most important aspect of preparing for nose plastic surgery is a consultation with a plastic surgeon or otorhinolaryngologist. Only after evaluating all possible risks, performing the necessary tests and discussing the course of the operation, the healing process and the future result with the doctor, decide on the future rhinoplasty.

Addictions

It is recommended to avoid tobacco products and alcohol for at least a few months before and after surgery, as the latter can cause blood clotting problems during surgery.

Other tips

If you wear glasses, keep in mind that after the operation you will not be able to wear them for at least 3 months due to possible bone deformation, so take care of your eye lenses. Bring button-up clothes to the hospital - it will be much more comfortable.

How is nose plastic surgery performed?

During plastic nose surgery, two doctors are involved - an ENT doctor, who is responsible for the nasal septum, and a plastic surgeon, who beautifies the aesthetic appearance of the nose. During the operation, the cartilaginous deformity of the tip of the nose or the cartilaginous-bony deformity of the back of the nose and the deviation of the nasal axis are corrected. Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and takes 2-4 hours. The operation, depending on the individual case, can be performed by the following methods:

Closed rhinoplasty

During it, internal incisions are made in the nasal mucosa, so the scars after the operation remain invisible. During closed rhinoplasty, small corrections are made in the area of the back of the nose, because the structure of the nose is not fully visible. After performing a closed rhinoplasty, the final result is formed faster than after an open nose operation.

Open rhinoplasty

During it, an incision is made in the area of the nasal bridge (columella) and is extended in the mucous membrane of the nostrils on both sides. During open surgery, the plastic surgeon can clearly see all the cartilage, so all possible corrections can be made. After the operation, a few millimeters long scar remains in the area of the bridge of the nose, which fades and flattens over time.

Augmentation of the nasal bone

Nasal bone augmentation (augmentation) can be called reverse rhinoplasty, as it fills in the missing nasal tissues. For bone augmentation, the patient's own cartilage tissue, extracted from ears or ribs, is used. The operation can be performed both open and closed.

Filler nose surgery

Such nose correction is not a surgical operation. With the help of special fillers, it is possible to correct small imperfections in the nose, to fill the area, for example, between the forehead and the bridge of the nose. The result of nasal filler surgery is not long-lasting, so the procedure needs to be repeated more often.

Repeated nose surgery

The final appearance of the nose depends most of all plastic surgery on the post-operative scarring process. The cartilaginous part of the nose causes a lot of trouble, so sometimes the nose can heal a little differently than planned. In this case, in order to achieve an even better result, repeated nose plastic surgery can be performed.

Postoperative care

Sutures and bandages

Dissolvable sutures can be used during surgery, which dissolve within a few weeks and do not need to be pulled, or non-dissolvable sutures, which are pulled out of the nasal cavity 7 days after surgery. Also, after the operation, the nose is tamponed with special bandages, which are removed on the first or second day after the operation.

Healing and scarring

Immediately after the operation, the upper part of the face may be swollen, bruises and bruises may appear, which disappear within 2 weeks after the operation. If a full rhinoplasty is performed, a splint must be worn for 10-14 days after surgery. The nose heals in 3-4 months after surgery, but to see the final version, expect to have to wait a year, because the shape of the nose changes every month due to the characteristics of the scar.

Physical activity and other recommendations

Avoid intensive sports, saunas and swimming pools for at least 2-3 months after the surgery. Try to bend forward as little as possible and avoid lifting heavy objects. It is also recommended to replace glasses with lenses for a while. Glasses cause pressure and incompletely healed nasal bones can shift and deform the shape of the nose. Avoid dusty rooms and smoky places for about 2 weeks.
