Lipoma removal

Lipoma is a soft, benign tumor of adipose tissue, the causes of which have not yet been precisely determined. Lipomas usually look like small mobile lumps formed under the skin, which do not pose a health risk and are usually painless, in which case it is not necessary to remove them.

If you notice that the lipoma increases in size, presses on nerves and interferes with muscle activity, changes color or shape, starts to hurt or gets in the way of clothes when dressing, falls into the eyes and looks unaesthetic - in such cases, it is recommended to contact specialists who will remove the lipoma surgically.

How is the operation performed?

Lipoma removal is usually performed under local anesthesia, except in cases where the formation is large or there are many of them - then general anesthesia may also be used. The incision is made around the formation, visually within the boundaries of healthy tissue. The formation is removed and the incisions are closed. If necessary, the removed formation is sent for histological examination.

Postoperative care and healing

Depending on the operated area, the sutures are removed after 7-14 days.

The postoperative scar should be protected from direct sunlight for at least half a year so that it whitens as quickly as possible and becomes less visible.
