Fat grafting

Fat grafting is a procedure recommended for patients who want a natural way to correct body lines, increase the volume of cheeks and lips, smooth out deeper wrinkles or scars.

In order to beautify the contour of the body or the face with fat, it is necessary to have accumulated adipose tissue on the body. This procedure cannot be performed on very athletic or very thin patients. Most of the time, fat for transplantation is taken from problematic areas, where fat usually accumulates - the waist or abdominal area, sometimes - from the thighs. This surgery, according to plastic and reconstructive surgeons, is the best solution for patients who want to kill two birds with one stone, because the operation removes excess fat from areas where it is too much and injects it where volume is needed.

How is the operation performed?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. 0.5 cm long incisions are made in the area where liposuction will be performed. Most of the time, fat for transplantation is taken from problem areas where fat usually accumulates: waist, abdominal area, sometimes - thighs. A 5-8ºC saline solution is injected through the incision to reduce bleeding and break up fat cells. Later, a metal cannula is inserted, with the help of which fat is sucked out, which, after being prepared by a special method, is injected into the required area. More fat is always injected, because only about 40 percent of it is absorbed - part of the transplanted cells is treated by the body as normal fat tissue, and fat cells that have not absorbed are broken down, carried out and removed from the body.

Postoperative period and healing

• Since only about 40% of the fat is recovered after the surgery, the procedure may need to be repeated after some time to achieve the best result;
• The volume of transplanted fat also depends on changes in weight - after weight loss, its volume decreases;
• The places where fat has been transplanted should not be massaged for about a month;
• It is recommended to avoid physical exertion and sports for 2-4 weeks after surgery.
