Correction of the nasal septum (septoplasty) is an operation performed to eliminate respiratory function disorders. A crooked nasal septum can be congenital or deformed in the event of an accident, trauma or in the case of insufficiency of the nasal valves and hypertrophy of the concha and causes various problems: snoring, chronic runny nose, can affect the activity of the cardiovascular system, the digestive system. Reconstructive nasal septum surgery not only makes breathing easier, but also prevents serious health problems.

How is the operation performed?

Nasal septum correction is performed under general anesthesia. The operation, which lasts 30-60 minutes, is performed by making an incision inside the nose and separating the mucous membrane from the cartilaginous and bony parts of the septum and removing distortions that impede breathing.

Sometimes, after removing distortions that interfere with breathing, the cartilaginous septum is reinforced with thin cartilage plates, the incision in the nasal mucosa is sutured. Swabs are placed in the nasal cavity and removed after about 24 hours.

Postoperative period and healing

Threads are not pulled from the nasal mucosa - they dissolve by themselves within two months;

Blood-colored discharge may flow from the nose for 1-2 weeks after the operation;

Difficulty breathing can last for 3-4 weeks;

Dusty rooms, smoky places should be avoided for about 2 weeks;

Hemorrhages disappear within 2 weeks after the operation;

If a full rhinoplasty is performed, a splint must be worn for 10-14 days after the operation;

Do not wear glasses for 2 months after the operation. When wearing glasses, incompletely healed nasal bones can shift and deform the shape of the nose;

After the operation, it is necessary to avoid intensive sports for 2-3 months;

2-3 months after the operation, it is advisable to avoid saunas, saunas, swimming pools;

The nose heals in 3-4 months. During healing, it is recommended to clean the nose with sea water and drip oil.
