Cervical amputation (conization)

Conization is the cutting of the cervical cone using a radiofrequency conizer, laser, or electric knife. The latter method is called diathermoconization.

Cervical amputation is performed:

• when there is a rupture of the cervix left after childbirth;
• when there is an elongation (elongation) of the cervix;
• when there is precancerous disease of the cervix (dysplasia).

It is recommended to perform the operation without planning a pregnancy in the next six months.

How is the operation performed?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia.

The procedure takes 5-10 minutes.

In cervical amputation, incisions are made inside the vagina and sutured with self-dissolving sutures.

A perineal plastic procedure can also be performed during the operation.

The removed part of the cervix is ​​sent for histological examination.

What is important to pay attention to after surgery?

Limit swimming in water bodies for 6-8 weeks.

Conditions that may cause a sudden increase in intra-abdominal pressure (eg, constipation, severe sneezing or coughing) should be avoided.

You should refrain from sexual intercourse for 6 weeks after the operation.

Physical exertion should be avoided for approximately two months (until the surgical wounds are completely healed).
