Treatment of bruxism (teeth grinding).

Bruxism is an involuntary grinding of the teeth during sleep, the occurrence of which is usually determined by psychological factors, such as stress, nervous tension, anxiety, phobias, experienced emotional trauma, depression. In some cases, the appearance of bruxism can be influenced by sleep disorders, used antidepressants.

Bruxism is manifested by a strong bite of the teeth and abnormal movements of the lower jaw, which cause the teeth to rub against each other on the chewing surfaces, thus creating a grinding sound. People who grind their teeth usually do not notice or feel it themselves - they learn about the tendency to bruxism from a dentist who, during the examination, notices signs of bruxism: teeth grinding marks on the surfaces of the teeth, enamel wear, exposed dentin in all groups of teeth.

As a result of dental damage, patients complain of tooth sensitivity to heat, cold, during cleaning and when touching with the tongue, poor aesthetic appearance, weak, extremely fragile and brittle teeth or dentures, falling fillings, cracking of the jaw joint, pain, limited and difficult gaping, headaches, tinnitus, a change in the shape of the lower part of the face. As a result of untreated bruxism, teeth can be worn down to half of the crown or even down to the gums.

How is the procedure performed?

Bruxism is treated with a preparation that is injected into the chewing muscles with an extremely thin needle during the procedure, thus relaxing them. After the procedure, the patient can speak, eat and smile freely, but he no longer grinds his teeth with such great force as before. The preparation works for about 3-6 months, after which, if necessary, the procedure should be repeated.

Bruxism treatment cannot be performed on pregnant and breastfeeding women.
