Tooth filling

Dental filling is the correction of a tooth defect, during which the damaged tooth is filled and restored using a filling material.

The most common dental disease is tooth decay (caries), the occurrence of which is determined by several reasons: a lack of trace elements (e.g. fluorine and calcium) and vitamins, an irrational diet (excess carbohydrates, too little fluoride in drinking water), poor oral hygiene. When the resistance of the tooth enamel decreases, favorable conditions are created for the bacteria and viral enzymes in the mouth to dissolve the enamel. As the decay spreads, the damage to the teeth increases, which causes pain.

The early stage of tooth decay is a darkened spot on the surface of the enamel or in its pits, in which, after some time, a cavity is formed, which grows and later reaches the pulp of the tooth. Then it occurs:

Tooth sensitivity;

Toothache or pain when drinking/eating hot, cold, sweet and sour foods;

Discomfort when chewing food.

The resulting cavity is cleaned by the dentist using special instruments and filled with a filling material, thus preventing the infection from entering the internal tooth structures or bone tissues, restoring the functional shape of the tooth and restoring its aesthetic appearance. If you do not seek a specialist and treat the tooth in time, the carious cavity increases and the patient feels pain, and if the delay is too long, the tooth may need to be extracted.

A filling is not forever - it wears out over time, cracks appear between the tooth and the filling, where microorganisms begin to accumulate and caries can begin to develop, so it is very important to regularly visit an oral hygienist and a dentist for preventive visits.
