Extraction of a wisdom tooth is a surgical procedure during which teeth are removed, which for certain reasons can affect the condition of other teeth, cause discomfort and dental diseases. Wisdom teeth are the last to erupt (or not erupt at all), so in many cases they can be the cause of changes in the bite, damage to nearby teeth, pain, infections, swelling, cysts and abscesses.

Of course, wisdom teeth removal is not always necessary. If the wisdom teeth do not cause inconvenience and threat, that is, they are fully and correctly erupted, and the cleaning tooth manages to reach them with a toothbrush, there is no need to remove such teeth.

It is recommended to consult an oral surgeon if you encounter at least one of the following cases:

You have noticed that the front teeth begin to curve when the wisdom teeth erupt;

You feel that food remains are constantly accumulating near an incompletely or crookedly erupted wisdom tooth;

Repeated inflammation or pain around the wisdom tooth;

If you cannot reach your teeth and clean them properly when brushing;

When eating, you bite the buccal mucosa near the wisdom tooth;

There is constant pain, blisters or a swollen part of the face.

Removal of wisdom teeth is performed under local anesthesia or sedation, so pain is not felt.

Post-procedural period and healing

Usually, the sutures are removed after 7-10 days. If dissolvable sutures are used, there is no need to remove them, as they will dissolve by themselves in about 2-3 weeks.

You can eat 2 hours after the tooth extraction procedure. It is recommended to avoid hot food/drinks. You should chew on the opposite side, and in the first days choose soft food.

It is recommended not to smoke or drink alcohol for at least a day after tooth extraction.

Cheek swelling is possible after tooth extraction. To reduce it, it is recommended to freeze the area of ​​the tooth extraction by applying an ice pack to the face. Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes, then cook for 20 minutes. break and refrigerate again. Repeat this about 3-4 times.
