Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a field that deals entirely with getting teeth and jaws into perfect alignment. The techniques are entirely non-surgical but work with using different types of braces to move teeth into perfect order.

Types Of Orthodontics Treatments

There are two main types of braces in orthodontics, movable and fixed.

1- Movable Braces

Movable braces are a type of orthodontics treatment that gives you the flexibility to optionally wear your braces. Although most people assume there is no schedule for wearing movable braces. Typically, you need to wear your movable braces for at least 20-22 hours per day. This gives you the opportunity to remove them when eating and cleaning your mouth.

Generally, this category of orthodontics treatment takes the longest time. Because most patients don’t commit to minimum hours of use.

2- Fixed Braces

In this category of orthodontics you don’t have the flexibility to remove your braces. They are cemented and changes monthly at the dentists. Although many prefer movable braces, fixed braces have a shorter period of time. This is because patients don’t get to meddle with wear times and progress goes according to schedule.

Braces Options

Orthodontics has advanced significantly providing more extensive options for wear.

1- Metal Braces

These are the traditional braces we’re all used to. They’re cemented to the front of the teeth and monthly changed at the dentists. As your teeth begin to move, the braces need to be adjusted. These are most suitable for children who most likely can’t manage movable braces.

2- Invisalign

The Invisalign is a brand of movable and transparent braces that most adults prefer over traditional metal wires. They give you the flexibility to remove braces to enjoy food and efficiently clean your mouth.

If you’re consistent with wear times, it’ll help the treatment finish on time.

3- Lingual Braces

These braces are fixed metal braces that are placed behind the teeth. It’s a perfect option for those who want shorter treatment times but invisible braces.

Benefits Of Orthodontics

Improves speech problems that result from misalignment

Alleviates digestive problems due to poor chewing

Facilitates oral hygiene

How Long Is Treatment With Orthodontics?

Treatment time can’t be generalized. Every patient requires a specific time period to restore their alignment. Some may need a minimum of 6 months while others may need 3 years.

The type of braces you opt for also plays a role in this. For example, fixed braces have a fairly shorter treatment time than movable ones.
